Learn MoreThere are many benefits to becoming certified in the safety & health field, not the least of which is earning potential. Safety professionals who are certified usually receive a higher salary than those who are not certified. According to the BCSP, CSP certification adds $13,000 to the median base salary for all full-time SH&E professionals, and it adds $30,000 to the median compared with the salaries of those who do not have a certification. Holding the ASP, CSP certification or other safety certifications allow you to be more marketable than your peers who are not certified.
Once you are approved by the BCSP, you must schedule and take the exam through Pearson Vue test centers. These test centers are located throughout metropolitan areas and often located in local universities and colleges.
Once you schedule the exam through the Pearson Vue test center website, you will have to travel to the location you have chosen on the day and time of your appointment. Pearson Vue maintains quiet, comfortable, clean test centers, including a workstation with a computer, keyboard, and mouse. You will check-in through their established process, then be escorted into the actual exam room, where you will be provided access to the exam on one of their computers in a testing cubicle. You initiate the exam on their computer. It will then run for the prescribed 5 (ASP) or 5 ½ (CSP) hours or until you choose to submit it for grading.
The workshop is a three-day, in-person or virtual class facilitated by a Nito Solutions facilitator. During these sessions, the facilitator uses the study guide as a catalyst for customized, in-depth discussions on the rationale and philosophy behind various safety & health management topics. The ASP and CSP study guides are 300-page books (100 pages for Math) designed to prepare students to take and pass the exam.
The BCSP offers a 6-month subscription called examCORE, a series of online videos with exercises. However, they include on their website that they have to ensure impartiality, ensuring their material is not connected to the exam. The following disclaimer is found on the BCSP examCORE website: "To ensure impartiality, BCSP utilizes subject-matter experts for the development of the examCORE program and products which are independent of the certification examination development process."

If your primary concern is cost, then the least expensive book available may be the right choice for you. However, during our workshop, attendees often lament the fact they initially tried to achieve their certification "on the cheap." They had failed and admitted they wished they had just come to the workshop or purchased our materials initially because they were unsuccessful and have now had to make an even more significant investment by paying for another exam. Certification is an investment in your long-term future and success. Nito Solutions strives to maintain prep material at a reasonable cost, but keeping accurate material requires investment in excellence.
Study guides provide insight into the BCSP certification and testing process, review several tips and techniques to prepare and pass the exam, provide many example exam questions with detailed explanations to better understand the philosophy behind both the question and the response.
The number of pages in the study guides changes as items are updated, added, or removed. However, the number of pages for the ASP and CSP Guidebooks ranges from 275 to 300 pages. The Math Guidebook is approximately 70 pages.
For the ASP and CSP Self-Assessments, there are 400 questions arranged in 4 – 100 question tests that are presented by the BCSP domain to assist you in identifying what domains you know well and not so well.
It is possible; however, everyone is different. Your knowledge, experience, study habits, and test-taking skills may be such that reviewing the study guides or other references allows you to pass the test. However, there is no substitute for being "in the room" with an exam expert to help you fully understand what you need to know. While some folks are more comfortable "going at it on their own," the main disadvantage is passing up the opportunity to speak with a facilitator live, so they genuinely understand the BCSP philosophy. Over the past decade, the BCSP has integrated many more subjective topics into both the ASP and the CSP. Understanding the philosophy behind these topics is paramount to success on the exam.
While Nito Solutions' study guides provide insight into the BCSP certification process, techniques to pass the exam, and many example exam questions with explanations to help you understand the BCSP philosophy, there is no substitute for "being in the room" with a safety pro and exam expert to answer your questions and concerns. Over the past decade, the BCSP has integrated many more subjective topics into both the ASP and the CSP. Understanding the philosophy behind these topics is paramount to success on the exam.
The Nito Solutions workshop is a 3-day, intensive look into the exam (either ASP or CSP), how to register with the BCSP, the process for scheduling the exam through Pearson Vue, several test-taking tips and techniques, insight into the concept of a personal gap analysis, successful study habits/techniques to prepare and pass the exam, and a series of example exam questions with detailed explanations targeted at each blueprint domain. During each domain session, the Q&A method of teaching/learning is used to help you better identify your knowledge gaps while also putting you in the exam-taking mode. Questions are addressed, and in-depth discussions are held when appropriate regarding the questions' explanations for you to understand the topic philosophy.
Nito Solutions workshops are facilitated by a safety professional who, having seen the exam to become certified, has also been helping candidates like yourself for years successfully pass the exam. In addition, each of Nito's facilitators is an active safety consultant in the safety & health field, working with clients on the real challenges faced in the field so they have first-hand knowledge in both the exam topics and how to explain them in a real-world setting.
Nito Solutions' material is drafted, vetted, and delivered by Nito's partners.
